Additional Opportunities
The College also offers School-Based Traineeships, School-Based Apprenticeships, TAFE courses and work experience. These opportunities provide valuable exposure to industry settings and allow students to gain real-world experience while still at school.
Course Duration and Certification
Most VET programs run over a two-year period. Students who successfully complete all course requirements will receive a Qualification and a Record of Results. Students who partially complete a course will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units achieved.
Students who commence a course after it has begun will be supported to complete the full qualification where possible. However, depending on timing and course requirements, a full qualification may not be achievable. In these cases, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for the competencies completed.
Students who withdraw from a course before completion will also receive a Statement of Attainment for the competencies achieved up to their exit date.
Courses are subject to minimum enrolment numbers. If a course cannot continue at the College, every effort will be made to support students to complete their studies through an alternative RTO. This may, in some cases, involve additional costs.
Learning Experiences and Assessment
Assessment in VET is competency-based. Students must demonstrate their skills on more than one occasion and in more than one way to be deemed competent.
Courses are delivered using a range of learning methods, including practical tasks, group projects, industry excursions, simulated work environments, student workbooks, teacher observations and structured work placements.
Qualified staff assess each student’s progress against nationally recognised standards, based on performance and participation in course activities.
Structured Work Placement
Many VET courses include compulsory structured work placement. Placements may occur during school hours, after school, or during school holiday periods, depending on the industry and course requirements.
Full details are provided in individual course descriptions.
