Vocational Education and Training

What is VET?

Vocational Education and Training (VET) provides students with hands-on learning and practical skills to prepare them for the workforce. These nationally recognised qualifications are delivered in partnership with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and complement students’ senior schooling.

Additional Opportunities

At Assisi Catholic College, we also offer School-Based Traineeships, School-Based Apprenticeships, TAFE Courses and Work Experience. These options provide valuable exposure to industry settings and help students gain real-world experience while still at school.

Course Duration and Certification

Most VET programs run over a two-year period. Students who successfully complete all course requirements will receive a Qualification and a Record of Results. Students who complete only part of a course will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the units they have achieved.

Students who enter a course after it begins will be supported to complete the full certificate where possible. However, depending on the course and timing, a full qualification may not be achievable. In these cases, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for the competencies completed. Students who leave a course before completion will also receive a Statement of Attainment for the competencies achieved up to the exit date.

Courses are subject to minimum enrolment numbers. If a course cannot continue at the College, we will make every effort to ensure students can complete their studies through another RTO. This may sometimes involve additional costs.

Learning Experiences

Assessment in VET is competency-based. Students must demonstrate their skills on more than one occasion and in more than one way to be marked as competent.

Courses are delivered through a variety of methods, including practical tasks, group projects, industry excursions, simulated environments, student workbooks, observations and work placements. Qualified staff assess each student’s progress toward the nationally recognised standards based on their performance and participation in course activities.

Structured Work Placement

Many VET courses include compulsory structured work placements. These placements may take place during school hours, after school, or during holiday periods depending on the specific industry and course requirements. Full details are outlined in individual course descriptions.
